When you look up Airsoft online, you
will find yourself immersed in information about the different kinds
of guns out there. While this is helpful and worthwhile, bb's are
just as important as the gun you are using. The make and weight of
the bb's you are using depends on what kind of gun you are using.
The different types are separated by their weight. A .12-gram bb
means each bb is .12 of a gram in weight. Here is a short list
of bb’s to help you decide which are right for you and your gun. .
.12 gram - These bb's are
perfect for spring pistols and rifles. They come in multiple colors
such as: yellow, orange, green and blue. These are the most
inexpensive bb's and you can a large amount without denting your
pocket book to badly. With these bb's it is very important that you
do not use them in any AEG’s or gas Airsoft guns. These bb's are too
light and will rattle around in the barrel when fired and damage the
gun. In many stores that I have talked too, using .12-gram bb's in a
AEG or gas gun will void their warranty!
.20 gram - These bb's are
perfect for gas pistols and stock AEG’s. With just enough weight to
keep from damaging the barrel and light enough to still provide
enough distance, these are by far the most popular weight of bb's.
If you are going to be using a gas pistol, this should be the only
weight you use unless you are firing over 300fps. These bb's usually
come in white and in some places you can find black .20s. Just as
Tokyo Mauri is the best AEG you can buy, Excel bb's are the top bb
on the market. Excels perform flawlessly under almost all condition
and if a bb jams in your gun, you should check your gun for the
source before the bb. After Excel, Infinity and Tokyo Marui bb's are
the next best bb's to use.
.23 gram - I have only seen
this weight of bb made by Excel. This weight will be great for
slightly upgraded AEG’s who need a heavier bb to keep their shots
true. This weight could also be used in stock AEG’s but be
aware that you will lose some distance but gain accuracy.
.25 gram - These bb's
should be used only if you have at least a M120 spring in your AEG.
People who use these bb's know what they are doing and expect that
they will lose distance because of the weight. The faster your gun
shoots, the heavier the bb needs to be. When you upgrade your gun
with a faster spring and you start to notice that your bb's are
starting to curve when you shoot them, it is time to move up to a
heavier bb. This weight is perfect for faster shooting AEG’s.
.28 gram - This is the
heaviest bb I have seen, save the aluminum .90 gram bb's. These bb's
are too heavy for pretty much any gun save the PSG-1 and other
sniper rifles. These bb's should not be used in any other type of
gun because they are just to heavy. If you have an heavily upgraded
Super 9, PSG-1 or any other rifle that is shooting faster then
450fps you need these bb's. Any lighter bb will more than likely
curve off from its trajectory and miss its target. One last note on
this type of bb's, make sure you buy Excel bb's. Nothing comes close
to the accuracy and reliability these bb's provide. When you are
firing bb's at this high of speed, leave no room for error.
.90 gram - These are
aluminum bb's are we do not suggest you use them. If you fire them
at a person during a game you could break their goggles and cause
damage. These bb's are extremely dangerous when fired at high
speeds. Do not shoot these bb's at any animal, person or windows.
Only shoot them during target practice in a place that neutralizes
ricochets and is away from anything that could be damage or hurt. |
