How should I start to talk about spring AirSoft
guns? Well their benefits are: they are inexpensive, they come in
pistols and rifles and they don’t shoot as hard as gas and AEG's.
The last one could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on who
is playing and what style of play you are going after. Lets break
each benefit down and explain things better.
Yes, they are less expensive then a gas gun or
an AEG but you lose quality. Pistols usually range from 16 to 25
dollars and rifles from 40 to 80 dollars. Rifles work by pulling a
bar or lever to 'cock' the gun, whereas to arm the pistol you pull
the slide toward the rear of the gun.
All spring pistols will shoot roughly the same
speed around 220 to 240fps. The only thing that separates the
different kinds of guns is there looks and reliability. Here are
some good tips when you are going to buy a spring pistol.
Weight - This is a big selling point and few
people know that there is just a cheap metal weight underneath the
grips to make it feel heavier. Don’t be fooled! If I strapped a
steel weight to my calf, I wouldn’t be any more durable would I?
Slide Tension - If you can try the gun out
before you buy it. You don’t have to actually shoot it, just try and
cock it back. Glocks are harder to cock then Berettas and USP's. If
your buying for a younger person, I recommend a USP because they are
easy to pull back and are still solid to withstand a beating.
Flimsy Pieces - Give the gun a small shake. If
anything is loose, you will be able to hear it. Spring guns are not
very high quality to start out with, so don’t take any chances on a
gun that rattles.
Spring AirSoft rifles tend to shoot differently
from one another. Quality is a major factor in these guns and they
are more expensive then there pistol cousins. Rifles will shoot
around 250 to 300fps. Here are some tips.
Arming - Trying cocking the gun before you buy
it. Unlike the pistols, there are various ways to cock a rifle and
it depends on the gun you are buying. It might be hard or too
awkward for your liking.
Clip Loading - Some rifle clips have a
reservoir that holds extra bb's and make it easier to load in the
heat of battle. This can be tricky at first but could pay off in the
long run.
Springs - Check how hard it is to cock the gun.
The harder it generally is, the harder it shoots.
I recommend UHC MP5 for its durability and
speed it shoots. In addition to that MP5, I suggest the M16 or M4
made by UHC. They will hold up over time and are the only spring
rifles that I would stand behind.
This is a very brief overview of spring
AirSoft guns.
