ICS SRC MP5 SD6 Boys model AEG review

What do you get your 9 year old
daughter for Christmas? You get her an AEG of course, well not
a real AEG but close, what I got her is an ICS SRC EP5 SD6, a
"Boys" model if you will, which is based on the MP5 SD6. I
Bought this gun at the local, friendly, neighborhood Airsoft
store for a grand total of $23, and you can't beat that price.
Included in the package is the gun, one magazine, a 7.2 800mAh
NI-CD 6xAA battery, one charger, a magazine loading tool, one
small Philips Head screw driver, small bag of .12 bbs, and a
strap for the gun.
First look at the gun, it looks a lot better made than many of
the other children's AEGs I have looked at. The body is all
plastic, but unlike others not as toyish looking. The
magazine, because of the weight, you would think is metal, but
it too is plastic. But again for a child's gun, and for the
price what do you expect.
Once I got home of course I had to test the gun to see how it
shot. Using .20 bbs, which is all I have and I wasn't about to
rip open the small bag of .12 bbs that came with the gun, I
loaded the magazine, which holds 24 bbs, and charged the
battery. The battery was fully charged in about 15-20 minutes.
Once I was ready to test fire the gun, I switched the fire
select from Safety, to Semi Auto with my thumb and then pulled
back on the trigger. The gun fired about 45-50 feet before
dropping, but again please note this was using .20 gram bbs
instead of .12s. I fired a second shot on Semi Auto and got a
similar result, I then flipped the selector to Full Auto and
fired a short burst. What I noticed when doing this was three
things the first is that I am spoiled by my AEG and 9.6 Large
battery that increases my rate of fire, because in comparison
this gun is slow but good enough for a child's gun, second was
the shots were not going quite as far, though only by a foot
or so, and last was the gun double fired a couple of rounds. I
loaded the magazine a few times and got basically the same
results each time.
While at the store, we noticed that it is possible to put
upgrade parts on to this gun, as seen below where we have an
ICS folding stock on the gun. Also I have been shown that it
is also possible to put a version 2 gearbox into this gun,
with a few modifications, taking this gun from a “Boys” model
to a full AEG, of course putting these pieces, and upgrading
the internals would cost a lot more than the initial cost of
the gun.
So what is my over all thoughts about this gun? My answer is
simple, after playing with this gun, I want one myself, so I
can use it to skirmish with my daughter. Shame that the one I
bought for my daughter was the last one in the store I got it
from, but the next time some come in, I will get another one,
maybe two, I have a 4 year old son who I will be getting into
Airsoft in the next few years. If you get one of these guns
for your children, nephew, niece, whatever, don't forget to
get an extra magazine or so for the gun, having to reload the
magazine every 24 rounds is going to take all the fun out of
the game for the child. |

we took of the gun.
